Order questions

Orders

Are your products made to order?

Yes. Defect Dept. products are printed to order. Once you place an order, the item is sent to a print partner to be produced fresh for you.

Can I change or cancel my order?

Contact us as quickly as possible. If your order has already entered production, we may not be able to change or cancel it.

Will I receive an order confirmation?

Yes, you should receive an order confirmation email after checkout. Please check your spam or junk folder if it doesn’t appear.

I entered the wrong address. What should I do?

Contact us straight away. If the order has not yet gone into production or dispatch, we’ll try to update it. Once dispatched, we may not be able to change the address.

Delivery questions

Shipping

How long does delivery take?

Many T-shirt orders are usually produced and dispatched within around 3–5 working days. Some products or suppliers may take longer, and certain items can take around 1–2 weeks.

Why does shipping take longer than a normal clothing shop?

Because our items are printed after you order. This helps reduce waste and avoids holding loads of unsold stock.

Will multiple items arrive together?

Not always. If your order contains different product types, they may be produced by different suppliers and could arrive separately.

Do you offer UK shipping?

Yes. Shipping options and costs will be shown at checkout based on your address and the products in your basket.

Fit questions

Sizing

How do I choose the right size?

Use our sizing guide and compare the measurements against a T-shirt or hoodie you already own. If you are between sizes, we usually recommend sizing up for comfort.

Are the T-shirts regular fit?

Our main T-shirts are designed to be comfortable and wearable. Check the individual product page and sizing guide for the most accurate fit information.

Should I size up for an oversized look?

Yes. If you want a looser or oversized fit, go one size up from your usual size.

Where is the size guide?

You can find it on our Sizing Guide page. We recommend checking it before ordering because products are printed to order.

Return questions

Returns & Exchanges

Can I return an item?

Because products are printed to order, returns for incorrect size choices or change of mind may not always be possible. This does not affect your statutory rights.

What if my item arrives faulty or damaged?

Contact us with your order number and clear photos of the issue. If there is a production, print or fulfilment fault, we’ll help sort it.

Can I exchange for a different size?

Size exchanges are not guaranteed because a new item has to be produced. Please check the size guide before ordering. If there’s a problem, contact us and we’ll review it.

Should I send the item back straight away?

No. Please contact us first before returning anything. We’ll confirm the correct next step based on your order and the issue.

Product questions

Products

What is Defect Dept.?

Defect Dept. is a funny car-inspired clothing and accessories brand built around MOT humour, project cars, rusty bits, warning lights and poor financial decisions.

Are you affiliated with DVSA, MOT, AutoAlex or IconBox?

No. Defect Dept. is an independent brand. Some designs are inspired by MOT-style terminology, but we are not affiliated with DVSA, GOV.UK, MOT, AutoAlex or IconBox.

Are the designs official MOT defects?

Some products may be inspired by official MOT-style wording, while others are completely fake and made for humour. Product tags and descriptions help show the type.

Do you sell more than T-shirts?

Yes. We’re building out the range with hoodies, mugs, caps, accessories and other car-inspired products.
